Earlier this year we held a moving exhibition put together by the Cairns Regional Domestic Violence Centre which comprised of art created by children from violent homes. It was really heart-breaking to see the ongoing pain and suffering that they suffer even today. It's a fact of society and sad to think that nearly all domestic violence is perpetuated by men.
We didn't want to have this as the only face of men shown at Cell Art
Space this year. November 19 was the date for this year's International Men's Day which has been
around since the mid-1960's and is celebrated in over 60 countries. Curated by local Artist Run Initiative, the Pop Up Collective and called 'I am Man' the aim was to explore the perspective of artists from different backgrounds on what it is like for them to be male in the 21st
Century.
We were proud to hold this exhibition featuring the very different styles of artists David Goebel, Andrew Bonneau, Christopher Hardwick and
Sandy Edgar. We also interviewed each artist on this blog to find out more about the art they created and what inspired them which you can
